    Importance of Quality Insurance Carriers
    and Representation

Here at SADLER, we understand the importance of high quality insurance carrier representation and are able to advise our prospects and clients on the strengths and weaknesses of each and what that means for their protection program.

Below are some of the qualities that we look for in our insurance carrier partners:

    1. Understanding of the prospect’s / client’s business type:

Unlike ten years ago when most carriers were generalists, most now specialize in certain niches. Niche specific programs are designed to meet the exact needs of certain business segments in terms of specially designed coverages to address common niche specific exposures and risk management services.

    2. Broad Coverage Forms:

All basic policy forms and policy endorsements should meet certain industry standards. All exclusions must be carefully reviewed to make sure that they don’t include any nasty surprises that could result in an unexpected claim denial. Policy types can often be customized to suit the specific coverage needs of a particular niche.

    3. Competitive Pricing:

It goes without saying that some carriers have more competitive pricing strategies than others. In addition, some carriers are able to apply credits for accounts with an above average risk profile and claims history.

    4. Ease Of Doing Business:

Long applications that are difficult and time consuming to complete can drive potential buyers away. It’s important for a carrier to only request essential information and to be able to use the application of another carrier for the purposes of providing a quote.

    5. Claims Administration:

Fast, prompt, and fair claims administration can speed a business’s return to providing client services. On the liability end, it’s important for the claims administrator to take an aggressive stand and not yield too easily to the demands of the allegedly injured party. A reduction in a liability claims payouts can result in a more attractive loss history which results in greater policy availability and lower future rate increases.

    6. Financial Strength:

All insurance carriers should have a rating in AM Best of at least A-. Such a rating means that the carrier is more likely than not to be around to pay future claims. Also, many contracts require an A- rating as a pre condition of doing business.

    7. Services:

Other services such as payment plans, accurate billing, loss control and premium audit are of importance. Bad performance in any of these areas can damage a client relationship.
